When it comes to recreation, some of us may feeling over encumbered by the over saturation of the digital media market. I.e., there’s too much fun to be had, and it can get a bit tiring to constantly be plugged in, so to speak. Therefore, it can be a prudent and therapeutic exercise to take a break from screens in favor of some “unplugged” recreation from time to time. Here are a few suggestions to help you do just that.
First and foremost, taking up a creative hobby is a great way to get away from your wi fi connected devices for a bit. Trying your hand at painting, for example, will give you a break from digital media in favor of a time honored art form that has delighted both practitioners and onlookers alike for much of human history, and for good reason. Both in painting and analysing a painting, there’s a lot of thought that goes into how things are represented. There are infinite ways in which to paint the same scene, for instance, and an infinite number of possible scenes of various types.
Another way to disconnect for awhile is to reconnect with nature. There are many ways to do this, and all of them equally valid. You could go foraging for wild edibles and even cook them and eat them right there in the woods. You could grab some Bass Pro gear and go fishing. Or, you could go camping and try a little bit of everything. Add to the above swimming, for example, as well as roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories.
With these tips in mind, surely you’ll have some luck finding the right way for you to disconnect. Don’t suffer from entertainment fatigue any longer.
